the work of catherine meier

Catherine MeierHaving recently completed a Master of Fine Arts degree at the University of Michigan, Catherine Meier started her formal art training after an illustrious career as a truck driver, hauling cattle throughout the entire Great Plains region of the United States. A native of Nebraska, Catherine received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the University of Nebraska Lincoln.  Her work as an artist seeks to visualize the interplay between interior thought and exterior landscape, and to illuminate the experience of existing in vast space.  Catherine recently traveled to Mongolia, a land geographically similar to the Great Plains, but completely different in culture and structure.  Through her own displacement in a familiar yet foreign landscape she further explored the relationship between interior and exterior terrain.  Her experience, ideas, and understanding of landscape and perception are realized through large-scale prints, drawings, and animation.  Catherine is the recipient of the national Jacob K. Javits fellowship for graduate study.
